The reaction is on expected lines - massive culling of birds in the affected
areas and precautionary measures being taken in all parts of the country. The mass
hysteria generated by bird flu is unprecedented with the sale of poultry products
registering an all-time low and their prices crashing like anything. The concern of
the government is damage control and not to allow this outbreak to transmit to
humans and take epidemic proportions. The fears of the first influenza pandemic of
